Our Company

Joe founded Generational Commercial Properties Co. in 2013 with the goal of developing best-in-class commercial real estate projects and creating long-term value for clients. Since then, Joe and the Generational team have developed 500,000 square feet of industrial, 4.0 million square feet of office and 700 multi-family units.

In his role as Founder and CEO, Joe provides strategic direction and leads all firm investment and development activities. Joe has the vision and creativity to see opportunity where others may not, and the focus and perspective to understand the details necessary to transform that opportunity into successful projects for Generational, our partners and investors. His knowledge and experience include all aspects of real estate transactions: underwriting, deal structure, debt and equity financing, entitlements and permitting, construction, marketing, property management and operations. Joe and the rest of the Generational team pride themselves on undertaking all of our activities while adhering to the highest professional and personal standards. In short, do it right daily.

Joe is deeply involved in the Austin community. He has dedicated significant time to Opportunity Austin and the Austin Chamber of Commerce to recruit and retain businesses in the Greater Austin area and to find solutions to address the challenges facing our community. He also serves on the board of the Rawson Saunders School for Dyslexics.

Joe earned his MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University–Bloomington. He is a member of ULI, CLBA and RECA.
Outside the office, Joe is a private pilot and enjoys flying, spending time with his family, skiing, and outdoor watersports.

Jim serves as Generational’s Chief Operating Officer and oversees the administrative and operational functions of Generational’s various businesses and entities. He collaborates closely with Joe and Cody with respect to Generational’s development projects and stabilized assets, and is responsible for implementing enterprise-wide strategies into the company’s day-to-day activities. A real estate attorney with extensive experience in commercial real estate transactions, financing, leasing and entity structures, Jim also works closely with outside counsel, consultants, architects and other third-parties to implement legal and operational considerations across the enterprise.

Jim has a JD from the University of Houston, a MLIS from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BA in English from UCSB.

Outside the office, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, playing tennis, seeing live music and having a glass of wine.

As Vice President of Construction, Cody manages all phases of construction and development by Generational. In his role, Cody works closely with our partners, consultants and contractors at every stage of development and construction. From entitlements and permitting to preconstruction services, through budgeting and management of the construction process, to closeout and final execution, his approach is comprehensive, thorough and efficient and ensures that all of our projects, no matter how large or small, are built to reflect our standards of quality and excellence.

Cody’s experience and expertise is both broad and deep. After graduating in 2008 from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Science, he joined Harvey-Cleary Builders in Austin, Texas, where he worked until joining Generational in 2021. Cody has served as the lead project manager overseeing construction of class A office/retail projects, industrial projects, hospitality, build-to-suit projects, and interiors. He has also worked on public projects in Austin, including construction of a water treatment facility and re-development of an industrial asset to office use. He is intimately familiar with the challenges of buildings in the Austin CBD, as well as the surrounding areas, and has expertise in high-rise construction, as well as below-grade construction and retention systems.

Outside of the office, Cody enjoys spending time with his family, having an occasional bourbon and cheering on the Aggies.
